From a shattered dream

ROOTS A NEW VISION

Battered by the coffee leaf disease in 1860, British planters turned to tea. During this time, a Scottish planter named James Taylor had begun experimenting with tea planting in Loolecondera estate in Kandy.  Within a decade, a new prosperous tea industry was built on the ruins of the coffee industry.

Pure Ceylon tea is blended by highly trained and experienced master blenders, to create blends that are suited for the distinct needs of various groups of customers from a variety of countries. Euro Asia teas are available in many forms including the unique silver and gold tips varieties. 

In 1873, James Taylor shipped his first consignment of finest Ceylon tea, about 23lbs, to London. By 1899, the total area under tea cultivation had grown to nearly 400,000 acres (1,619 km2), making it the primary income earner for the Colony administered by the British.
